Private William Booth

Private Booth of 17 Highwood Rd, Roman Terrace, Swinton, was killed in action on September 4.
He enlisted on October 19 1914, and went to France September 12, 1915.
He was 38 years of age, married, and leaves a wife and six children residing at the above address.
Prior to enlistment he worked at the Manvers Main Colliery.
His family made a great sacrifice for their country, three brothers having been killed.
Lance Corporal G Booth was killed on July 1, 1916 and Private Harry Booth fell in October 26, 1914.
The company Sergeant Major in private William Bull’s Regiment, writing to his wife, said: “your husband was in my company, but employed on the police at the time of his death. About 4:30 pm on the 4th inst, it was just leaving the dugout when a shell burst near him, and he was killed instantaneously.
He was a good soldier, always cheerful and ready to do his bit. He was so well liked by everyone who knew him.
