Coldstream Guards
Mr. and Mrs. Bailey of Cliffefield road, Swinton, have been notified of the death in action of their son, Corporal Ernest Bailey (Coldstream Guards).
He was home on leave a few weeks ago at the completion of his term of service, and being re-engaged went back to France, where he was, killed on December 1.
His widow has received a letter from Lieut. G. Smith, stating that her husband died of wounds on December 1, and adding: “I feel very much for you and the family in the great loss you, have sustained.
He was much loved by all, and died a hero’s death, falling in the hour of victory.”
Cpl. Bailey’s brother, Private Chas. W. Bailey (Coldstream Guards), was killed on October 26, 1914, during the retreat from Mons.
