Serious Charge against Swinton Men.
Before Mr. E. Rose, at the Rotherham West Riding Police. Court, yesterday. Ambrose Wilkinson (21), Arthur Thompson (21), and Joseph Williams (18), all of Roman Terrace, Swinton, were charged on remand with stealing on 15th September, at Swinton, boots to the value of £54 5s., the property of the Great Central Railway Co. Samuel Roebuck, of Carlile Street, Mexborough was charged with receiving from Ambrose Wilkinson and others boots to the value of £54 5s., the property of the Great Central Railway Co.; knowing them to have been stolen.
Supt. Horton said the police had had to extend their inquiries, with the assistance of the railway police, as far as Nottingham and Leicester, and he asked for a further remand until Tuesday next. In the case of the Great Central Railway Co. it was alleged there were ten larcenies committed between August and November, and the value of the goods amounted to £200, and in the case of the Midland Railway Co. the value was just over £50.
Mr. A. S. Furniss, on behalf of three of the, prisoners, applied for bail, but this was refused, and the prisoners were remanded in custody until Tuesday next.
