Swinton Captain Points Out “No Catch.”
Scarborough Win.
At Scarborough, Swinton were beaten by 73 runs, their sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth wickets falling without the addition of a run and the last five for only four runs.
There was a curious incident whilst J. R. Allan was batting for Scarborough. D. Willoughby, fielding at mid-off, took what appeared to be a catch. Both umpires gave the batsman out, but as Allan was walking away the Swinton captain (G. Price) called the umpires’ attention to the fact that the ball had touched the ground before reaching the fieldsman’s hands, and Allan was allowed to resume his innings.
He only added two more runs, but the Swinton captain’s sporting action was greatly appreciated by the crowd.
Denton took four for 44 for Swinton, and J. R. Allan five for 16 and Barber four for 17 for Scarborough.
