Serving in Sunk Cruiser

The announcement of the loss of H.M.S. Cornwall caused anxiety to Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Stacey, of 43, Chappell Street, Swinton, just when they had been surprisingly cheered by the homecoming of their son Alan.

Their elder son George was serving in the Cornwall, and no communication has yet been received from him. Alan was serving in H.M.S. Kandahar, which was sunk three months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Stacey received a telegram from the Admiralty on New Year’s Day to say their son was safe.

No news could be obtained of him and the Admiralty sent a telegram this week to report him – missing, but Alan arrived home on leave before the receipt of the telegram.
