Long Absence

A.B. Fred Nuttall (22) is spending his first home leave for nearly two and a half years with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Nuttall, 30, Walker Street, Swinton.

A.B. Nuttall has been on convoy work.  In North Africa he met Eric Daykin of Crossland Street, who is also home, and at various times many other local lads, including Arthur Edwards, a neighbour, Joe Madden of Kilnhurst and Bernard Carr of Wath, all of them sailors.  A.B. Nuttall served with Carr for about a year.

He has served four years in the Navy and took part in the chase of the Bismarck.
