Sailor Loses Foot
Able-Seaman John Francis Beasley (19), younger son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Beasley, of 145, White Lee Road, Swinton, is at present in a British hospital in the Middle East, recovering from wounds believed to have been sustained in recent action in the Mediterranean.
A.B. Beasley has written to his parents saying that he has had his left foot amputated and that he expects to be coming home in due course., His letter is couched in cheerful terms, and he seems to be pluckily making the best of his misfortune.
He joined the Navy about a year ago and has been serving in light craft.
His brother, Able Seaman Joseph Beasley, has been in the Navy for the past two and a half years, and his father saw 22 years’ service in the Navy, and reached the rank of Warrant Officer before receiving his discharge.
