Rockingham Pottery
Mr Marshall sent me an interesting account of the Rockingham Pottery home at Swinton, where common earthenware in coloured clays was made from about 1745.
The factory was on lands of the Marquess of Rockingham, hence the name of Rockingham works.
It seems that the pottery was carried on from 1806 by a family of potters named Brameld, and about 1820 with the assistance of workmen from the Derbyshire and Staffordshire potteries, they began to make bone porcelain.
They hit on hard times and were assisted by Earl Fitzwilliam, but about 1842 they gave up business.
