Retirement

Friends of Mr. S. Palfreyman will be interested to hear of his retirement this week-end after 46 years’ service on the Midland and LM.S. Railways.

He will be best remembered as Stationmaster at Swinton from 1919 to 1927 but, as a native of Kilnhurst and a member of a well-known local family, his association with the district has been continuous.

He started his career in the booking-office at Kilnhurst In 1896; in 1910 he was appointed Stationmaster and Goods Agent at Bolsover, then followed the period at Swinton and five years at Congleton the same capacity.

Since 1932 he has been Goods Agent at Longport, where he lives and where, for the time being, he will enjoy his leisure.

Sixteen years ago a serious illness befell him from which he has not fully recovered but we are pleased his health is now fairly satisfactory.

Mrs. Palfreyman is a Swintontan and she, too, is kindly remembered by many.
