Rescuer and Rescued

Varah Dobson (left) of Rowms Lane, Swinton and his little cousin, Freeman Tingle aged six, whom he very luckily rescued from drowning in the canal at Swinton last Thursday evening.

The younger boy fell into the water while playing on the embankment, and Dobson, at very great risk and with admirable presence of mine, reached out and was able to grab the child by the head. With a great effort he brought into the bank.

The little lad had swallowed a large quantity of water, but Dobson, who seems to be a particularly sensible and resourceful boy, brought in round by artificial respiration.
