Ronald C. Edwards, 18- year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Edwards, of 78, Fitzwilliam Street, Swinton, has been awarded an open scholarship by the University of Edinburgh, where he will begin medical studies in October.

He has been exempt from the first year of the course due to his high standard in “A” levels. As well as the M.B., Ch.B. degrees, he will also take the honours course for B.Sc., Medical Sciences.

He had four unconditional places at other universities to study physics but chose to take the unconditional offer of a place at Edinburgh University to study medicine.

He is still at Mexborough Grammar School, where he will be taking a further two “0” levels, two “A” levels and two special papers this month.

His mother is the District Midwife for Kilnhurst and Swinton areas.
