Mrs. Grace Mary Abbott
The death occurred recently of Swinton’s oldest resident, Mrs. Grace Mary Abbott, of 39, Thomas Street, Bowbroom, who celebrated her 93rd birthday last November.
She was the widow of Mr. William Abbott who died 27 years ago.
Well-known in Salvation Army circles to Swinton and Mexborough, Mrs. Abbott, in addition to bringing up her family of eight, had, through the Salvation Army, found a home for many orphaned children.
Mrs. Abbott was a native of Rugeley, Staffs., and had lived in one house at Bowbroom for over 50 years. Formerly she had lived at Darfield and Mexborough.
In over 90 years she had only one serious illness. The funeral takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at Swinton.
