Obituary – John Sykes

The death has occurred John Sykes (51), of 21, East Avenue, Swinton, an employee of Baker and Bessemer for 31 years. A  Mr. Sykes took an active part in the St. John First Aid Group at the steel works, and received many certificates.

For many years as a child Mr. Sykes lived at Highthorne, Kilnhurst, where he attended school but he had lived in Swinton for 25 years. Before his illness three years ago Mr. Sykes was employed or a few years at Steetley Quarry Company, Conisbrough, and for several months, about five years go, Mr. Sykes was steward of the Queen’s Hall Club, Swinton, until it was closed.

Mr. Sykes leaves a widow, Mrs. Ann Sykes, two sons, Leonard and John and one daughter, Agnes. There are three grandchildren, Jacqueline, Lynn and Donald.
