New Vicar Of Swinton

Rev. H. W. Quarrell Leaving Elsecar

The Rev. Herbert William Quarrell, B.A., has accepted the living of Swinton, where he will succeed the Rev. T. G. Rogers, who leaves later this month to be Rector of Tankersley.  Mr. Quarrell is at present Vicar of Elsecar, a position he has held since May. 1939.

For three years before going to Elescar, Mr. Quarrell held the post of Organising Secretary to the Additional Curates’ Society, and in this connection had worked chiefly in London. At Elsecar he has been a popular Vicar and has done much to foster friendly relationships between the Parish Church community and the non-conformist church of the Hoyland and Elsecar district. Under his leadership the church organisations have made good progress and his work among the young people has been particularly valuable.

Mr. Quarrell graduated at Pembroke College, Oxford, continuing his training at Cuddesdon Theological College. From 1927 to 1932 he was a curate at St. Alden’s, Mansfield, after which he went to St. Peter’s, Hucknall (Notts.) until 1935, later taking over as Organising Secretary to the A.C.S. He is married and has two children.
