Mr E G Trowbridge
New District Scoutmaster
Mr Edward George Trowbridge, Swinton, a well-known local Scouting enthusiast was appointed district Scoutmaster of the Mexborough Association last week at a meeting in the 4th Doncaster troop headquarters, Mexborough.
A native of Swinton, and principal of the firm of Trowbridge and Trowbridge, builders and contractors, Station Street, he has had many years of association with the Scout movement.
He was a member of the original first Swinton troop of scouts in 1914, and during the War was one of the Scouts whose duty was to call up the special Constabulary when an air raid occurred..
The troop was then commanded by Mr W Barlow, now Mexborough.
Under him, Mr Trowbridge became assistant Scoutmaster and upon Mr Barlow’s retirement in 1923, he was appointed Scoutmaster. The same year he was awarded the Wood badge and in 1930 was made group Scoutmaster.
He is now in charge of all the groups in the Mexborough Association area.
In his early days the troop number about 40 members and it is a tribute to his popularity that the first Swinton Troop has preserved such a fine membership ever since. At present it consists of 35 scouts, 24 Wolf Cubs and 14 Rover Scouts. Every year he organises camps with great success.
Mr Trowbridge recent became a member of the Mexborough and District Rotary Club.
