Missing Whisky from Railway

John William Lenton (30), Swinton was charged at Rotherham West Riding Ct yesterday with stealing 12 bottles of whisky, valued at £7 10s from the LNER at Wath Road, Swinton April 23.

Robert Lenton (56) and Robert Lenton (19) is father and brother, were charged with receiving five bottles.

George A Window (23) and Patrick Rocha (Susan), both of Wath, were charged with receiving one bottle.

Evidence was given that a wagon containing whisky was intact at York, when it arrived at Marylebone there was one case missing.

The four men charged with receiving all denied the allegation, and the cases against them were dismissed.

John William Lenton said he found a case of whisky near the railway embankment and took five bottles. He denied stealing the whole case.

The magistrates found him guilty, and a long list of previous convictions was proved. He was sent to prison for four months.
