Swinton Soldier Loses His Life

His many friends in Swinton will regret to learn of the tragic death of Anthony by Bowen (20) who lost his life when the army vehicle in which he was travelling was involved in an accident in the early hours of Sunday morning near Kiel in Germany.

Anthony, whose parents Mr and Mrs C Bowen live at 34 Brookfield Ave, Swinton, was due to be demobilised next month from R.E.M.E.. He was on a three year engagement.

Educated at Swinton Fitzwilliam Jr School and Hague Road Modern School, and he was a well-known member of Swinton Queen Street Youth Club.

The first of his three years’ service were spent in Malaya, and 11 months ago he was posted to Kiel.

Mr and Mrs Bowen were informed by a telegram from the Commanding Officer at Wigston that their son and another soldier had been killed in the mishap.
