Miners’ Demonstration At Mexborough

The annual demonstration in connection with the Denaby Main Lodge of the Miners’ Association took place yesterday. The men assembled at the Lodge Room at the Masons’ Arms, Mexborough, at 10 a.m., and, headed by the Swinton Brass Band and the lodge flags or banners, marched in procession to Denaby Common, subsequently returning to the Masons’ Arms.

A large tent had been erected in a field adjoining, and here a substantial dinner was served by the landlord of the Masons’ Arms. About 500 miners were present, and partook of the good things provided.

A meeting was subsequently held in the tent, when addresses were delivered by Mr. Chappell, miners’ agent, and Mr. Edwards, secretary of the North Staffordshire Miners’ Association, appealing for help on behalf of the 5,000 men out on strike in North Staffordshire.
