A presentation of a marble clock was made on Wednesday evening to Mr. W. P. Turner, organist of the Mexboro’ Church, by the clergy, wardens and choir, in honour of his recent marriage.


Mrs. Greenwood, of 2 Regent Terrace, Mexboro’, desires to publicly thank Wm. Hague, of Sarah Street, Mexboro’, for his gallant rescue from drowning of her son, John William, last Saturday, near the Wash behind Mexboro’ Station. This is the third rescue which Hague has effected.


There appears to be considerable sickness in the district, and the deaths amongst juveniles, in some localities, are at a high ratio. It is noticed at Denaby and Conisboro’ that large circulars are posted on the walls warning parents of the prevalence of diarrhoea, and recommending what steps should be taken. “Prevention is better than cure.”


The (Dowager) Mary Countess of Galloway, who died on Tuesday, 18th August, was the head lady of the family, of which the Lady Mary Cooke (so well-known in Mexboro’, Conisboro’ and district), late of St. Catherine’s, Loveresshall, near Doncaster, is a member. Lady Mary, whose name is borne by local habitations of the Primrose League, was sister-in-law to the deceased Countess. Lady Mary’s brother was the late Earl of Galloway, and her father the preceding Earl.


Mr. J. Nolan, of Denaby, has been elected to the post of checkweighman at the Diamond Pit of Messrs. Pope and Pearson, Limited, Altofts, near Normanton.
