Mexborough and Swinton Times October 4, 1919
Loss to Swinton.
Dr. F. Harvey Leaving the District.
Dr. Frank Harvey and Mrs Harvey of Station, street, Swinton, are about to leave Yorkshire, and intend to settle at Yateley nr. Sandhurst, Hampshire, where Dr. Harvey has acquired a practice. The change has been dictated by the health of their only child, for whom, a more genial climate is necessary. They very much regret the prospect of severance from a district in which they have spent fifteen happy and prosperous years and have made numerous friendships.
Dr. Harvey came to Swinton in 1904, as assistant to Dr. C. B. Blythnian, and was a few years later admitted to partnership. Subsequently, when Dr. Arthur Blythnian found it necessary, for his health, to settle in Australia, and Dr. C. S. Blythman retired, owing to advancing age and infirmity, Dr. Harvey acquired the whole practice, which he has now sold to Drs. Hatherley, Gardner, and Lee, of Swinton and Mexboro’.
Dr Harvey has held a number of appointments, in addition to his practice. He has been medical officer to the Manvers Main Collieries Ltd and to the Thrybergh Hall and Warren Vale workmen, medical officer and public vaccinator for the Swinton and Kilnhurst district of the Rotherham Poor Law Union; local medical officer to the Yorkshire coal owners Mitchell Indemnity Company; police surgeon at Swinton, lecturer to the Swinton centre, St. John Ambulance-Association, and to the Swinton Division, Rotherham Corps.
In 1915, Dr. Harvey joined the R.A.M.C., and for a time was commandant of the Mexborough Auxiliary Hospital. Later he was transferred to the staff of the 3rd .Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, and finally was drafted to France, where he saw a good deal of service and suffered injury, this horse on that occasion being shot under him. He was demobilised last January.
Dr. Harvey stands high in his profession as a surgeon, and is esteemed for his high skill in operations. On that account alone he will be much missed here.
He has been a member of the honorary medical staff of the Moatagu ‘Hospital since he arrived in the district, and has greatly distinguished himself there. Mrs. Harvey has been a member of the Ladies’ Committee of the Montagu hospital since 1905, and has won the esteem of patients and staff by heir sympathy and considerate labours.
