A Nine Years Old Swinton girl is heartbroken keen on horse riding, she has been promised a pony by her father, but he cannot buy one because there is no spare land in the area on which to build a stable.
Julie Frost, of 33, Queen Street, Swinton, has been riding for about 12 months. During this time she has been travelling to Sheffield on one evening a week to take lessons on borrowed ponies.
Bought Kit.
Her Father, Mr. Harold Frost, a G.E.C. worker at Swinton, bought her a full riding kit when he realised her interest in riding. and also promised her a pony so that she could practise on her own.
She was even bought a little bridle and saddle for the pony, and Mr. Frost constructed a sectional stable to be erected on his council allotment at Bowbroom. When he approached the local council however, he was told no livestock could be kept on the land, so Julie’s plant to have a pony suffered a set back.
Julie’s mother, Mrs. Jean Frost, told the “South Yorkshire Times,” on Wednesday, “Julie is heartbroken. My husband takes her and her younger brother Michael to Sheffield each week, but afterwards she cannot practise what she has been taught.
“It is a great pity that a small place of land cannot be found for a stable, because her interest is so great.”
Mr. Frost has been all over Swinton in an attempt to purchase or rent a place of land, but he has been unsuccessful.
A pupil at Queen Street Junior School, Julie gained third place in her first competition at a club gymkhana last week.
