Ivill Fails To Save Rockingham

Swinton’s second win of season was mainly contributed to by effective bowling and a sound innings by Adey, who appears to be running back into his best form this season. He gave a faultless, though careful display to make 69 of the side’s 168 in two hours off the Rockingham bowling, stepping timely into the breach when Heaton, for once. had failed. A, useful last-wicket contribution was made by Harold Hibbert (picture) who hit his 17 in less than five minutes, including a six to the top side of the pavilion.

Hibbert also played his part with the ball, taking a couple of wickets. This youngster shows promise, he bowls with rare pace, and should be dangerous when he has got control of his length. As on many another occasion, lvill was Rockingham’s mainstay, and he carried his bat for a correctly played 77, the highest individual contribution of the match. There was a marked contrast in the fielding of the two sides. Rockingham might have saved many runs, while Swinton gave little away.

The Rockingham players wore black armlets in tribute to one of their oldest supporters, Sam Jones, who had just died.
