Hawker Charged With £200 Robbery At Swinton
Vincent Pollard (19), hawker, of no fixed abode, stated to be known as Sonny Fisher, was charged at Rotherham on Monday with having broken into and entered a dwellinghouse occupied by Mr. Charles Waring Verity, steel merchant, of 145, White Lee Road, Swinton on May 7th, and stolen a quantity of jewellery, clothes and money value £200. Pollard was further charged with having done malicious damage to a mahogany dressing table to the extent of £25.
P.c. Hunter said in consequence of a complaint he made enquiries and found prisoner hiding in a shed in some allotments. Witness took him into custody. When charged he replied “I am sorry, it’s drink that’s done it.” Witness stated that the stolen property had been recovered.
The prisoner was remanded in custody until to-day (Friday).
