Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. A. Nicklin, 54, Brookfield Avenue, Swinton will celebrate their golden wedding on Sunday. They were married at Treeton Church in 1892 and have now nine children end thirteen grandchildren. They have been readers of the “South Yorkshire Times” for over 40 years.

Mr. Nicklin was born at Snydale, near Pontefract, on June 30th. 1871, and at the age of 13 was one of the first boys to work  down South Kirkby Colliery.

In 1894 he went to Kilnhurst Colliery, and in 1905 to Manvers Main. In 1908 Mr. Nicklin was appointed a Y.M.A. delegate and was elected branch chairman to 1912. He was elected Swinton representative to the Rotherham Board of Guardians in 1910, a position he held for over 21 years, becoming chairman in 1928, and when in 1931 the Board of Guardians as abolished he was the oldest member.

He is one of the founder members of the Swinton W.M.C. and is now an honorary member. Mr. Nicklin is also a member of the Victoria Club committee.

A native of Shropshire, Mrs. Nicklin is 68. She came to Yorkshire as a girl.
