Former Curate Appointed
The vicariate of Swinton, which has been vacant since last February, when the Rev Frank Hutchinson relinquished it to become headmaster of St Peter’s School Lewisham, London, has been offered by Earl Fitzwilliam to the Rev Thomas Godfrey Rogers, vicar of St Peter’s, Highland Nether, who expects to be instituted in June or July.
Mr Rogers was formerly a curate at Swinton, and was, indeed, ordained there, in 1910, this being the only instance of an ordination in the parish.
Mr Rogers spent two years in Swinton, and was afterwards curate at Littleport, Ely, where his father, the late Rev F.E.Rogers, was for many years vicar.
He was appointed vicar of St Peter’s island in 1915.
During the war he served as a chaplain to the forces in Egypt for 18 months, and his father took over is parochial duties.
