Defaulters Summoned

One Swinton man and seven Kilnhurst men were summoned at Rotherham on Monday for having failed to perform fire watching duties.

Walter Dobbs (35), railway employee, of 60, Crossland Street, Swinton, was fined 20s. and ordered to pay £3 witness’s fee for an offence on July 9th.

Philip Bradshaw (Fire Guard Officer) said Dobbs told him, “I can’t get enough sleep.”

Summonses against Harry Dixon (18), haulage hand, of 47, Springfield Road, Hubert Millington (41), miner, of 4, Springfield Road, and Leonard Cuckson (32), miner, of 19, Greenwood Road, all of Kilnhurst, were dismissed.

Joseph Dixon (45), labourer, of 17, Thomas Street, Benjamin Dixon (49), labourer, of 47, Springfield Road, David Squires (43), labourer, a 45, Springfield Road, and Charles E. Jackson (24), bricklayer, of 57, Springfield Road, all of Kilnhurst, were each fined 20s.

Harry Dixon, Hubert Millington and Leonard Cuckson, summoned for having obtained by false pretences ninepence (money paid for fire watching) were ordered to pay witness fees of 22s, 6d. No conviction was recorded.
