At Rotherham, on Monday, Harold Betts (26), glassworker, of 47, Walker Street, Swinton. and Michael Mannion, (30). miner, of 63, Walker Street, Swinton, were each fined £2 for falling to perform fire-watching duty on April 7th at Booker’s Yard, No. A1 section of Swinton fire watching scheme, between I a.m. and 5 a.m.

In court, Betts said he had not looked at the duty sheets. Mannion said he ought to have gone to look at the sheets.

Philip Bradshaw, fire guard staff officer, said each man had a bad record before the incident for which they were summoned.
