Elopement at Swinton

The denizens of that classic neighbourhood, Walker-street, Swinton Bridge, were somewhat excited on Saturday last, when it became known that the wife of a man named Brumett had eloped with the lodger.

It appears, that for some time past, suspicion was aroused by the frequent convivial excursions of the frail fair one and her lover to the neighbouring public-houses, which culminated in a hasty flight on Saturday last.

As she was unable to take with her anything of great value, and her husband being of stoical disposition, there is no likelihood of the “even tenor” of their way being interfered with.

To make the affair more complete, Brumett disposed of his household effects on Monday, and, it is rumoured, determined to resume “single blessedness” for time to come.
