Druids Honour
Swintonian Made Grand Master
Mr Moses Guest’s Distinction
A well-known Swintonian, Mr Moses Guest, Rhynda, Rowns Lane, a trustee of the Rotherham District of the order of Druids Friendly Society, received a high honour at their annual conference at Morecambe on Friday, when he was elected Grand Master of the Order.
There were hundred 40 delegates at the conference representing hundred 50,000 members.
Mr Guest has been associated with the Druids order for over 40 years, is a member of the Gladstone Lodge, which is held in the Swinton Bridge Methodist church schoolroom. He has been the Lodge treasurer for over 30 years, the Lodge book auditor, and was appointed the Grand Master of the Rotherham District in 1917. He is at present one of the district trustees.
He was a founder of the well-known firm of Tyas and Guest, the Don Valley marble and memorial words, 40 years ago, there is every reason to be proud of its development its present size. They have provided monumental masonry 4/400 different churchyards and cemeteries in all parts of the country.
An exceedingly popular man – both with the general public and with his own men – Mr Guest has also for many years been closely associated with local Methodism, but it was the Swinton Bridge Methodist Church and the Mexborough circuit. He has been a local preacher for 43 years, and has furthermore found down to be a Sunday School superintendent.
He is also a member of the Rockingham Lodge of Freemasons.
