Curate’s New Appointment
Curate at Swtnton tor five years the Rev. Frank Smedley, is to succeed a former curate or Mexburough the Rev. W. G. Laurence. as priest In-charge of the conventional district of New Maltby combined with the chaplaincy of Sandbeck.
Mr Smedley LeavesSwinton at the end of February.
Mr. Smedley who is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Smedley of 11. Cobcar Street, Elsecar, was educated at Elsecar National School, Barnsley Grammar. School and Denstone College, Staffs.
He was a former choirboy and server at Elsecar Parish Church, and trained for the Ministry at Kelham Theological College. His first curacy was at Redditch, Worcester and he became curate of Swinton in 1942 and was priest-in-charge of St. Michael’s until 1944.
Mr. Smedley is a member of the Executive of Sheffield Diocesan Youth Committee and of the Diocesan Youth Fellowship Committee, and has been secretary of Wath Deanery Youth Committee.
Mr. Smedley married a daughter of the Rev. A. R. Hince, priest-in-charge of St. Michael’s, Swinton, and they have a 21-year-old daughter, Veronica Bernadine.
