The Reverend W.J. Parker, curate-in-charge of the church of St. Michael and All Angels, returned on Friday from a strenuous two weeks’ campaign organised by the Industrial Christian Fellowship in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales.
Mr. Parker told a representative of this paper that about sixty curates and laymen from all parts of the country took part. He was assigned with two others to Treherbert at the far end of the valley. The greater part of the work consisted of addressing mass meetings out of doors, but they also visited unemployment centres.
“It was an interesting experience,” he said, “but apart from delivering the syllabus of the crusade, we had to spend considerable time answering questions—without guaranteeing the answers.”
Since there were numerous representatives of other religious bodies and Communists in the audiences indulging in occasional heckling and questioning, and since they were instructed totake every question seriously, it was always a pleasant business.
