Crash Downhill Into Car.
Year-Old Accident Proves Fatal to Swinton Man.
A motor accident which occurred more than year ago at Barlborough was stated to have been responsible for the death of Sidney John Webb (30), of 79, Rowns Lane, Swinton, upon whom the City Coroner (Mr. J. Kenyon Parker) held an inquest at Sheffield yesterday.
About a year ago Webb was riding a bicycle down a hill at Barlborough when he collided with a motor-car, the front wheel of his machine being buckled. He was taken to the Mexborough Hospital, where he was detained suffering from a fracture of the arm. As his condition did not improve he was removed to the Sheffield Royal Infirmary, where he collapsed during an operation and died the same day.
James Bullock, of Doncaster Road, Barlborough, told the Coroner that the motor driver was not to blame for the accident. There was only one brake on Webb’s bicycle, and this appeared to be somewhat inefficient. The driver of the car, Percy Waddingtom of Wath-on-Dearne, who said that he swerved to the offside in an effort to avoid the mishap, was exonerated from blame, a verdict of “Accidental death” being returned.
