Tomorrow’s Election
Will Swinton Poll Match Increased Interest?
Citizens Association candidates are contesting every Ward into tomorrow’s Swinton Urban Council election and it is hoped they will be a heavy Poll to correspond with increased interest in local affairs in the town. In all Wards the retiring Labour Councillors are seeking re-election.
Bridge Ward
Harold Hampshire (Citizen) of 66, Brookfield Avenue, is a clerk employed at Parkgate Iron and Steel Works.
Mr Hampshire, aged 32, is one of the youngest candidates to stand for election. He was a telephonist during the war, serving with the Navy. He is a founder member of the Citizens Association.
Married, Mr Hampshire has two children, a boy and a girl.
Albert Henry Marriott (Labour) power house attendant, 24 Toll bar Road, Swinton, has represented the ward for the past eight years.
His is at present Chairman of the Council, Lighting, Parks and Allotments Committees, Member of Swinton Primary School Managers and Swinton Youth Council.
He has been nominated by Manvers Main NUM branch which he has been a member always working life as resided in the bridge ward for 53 years.
