Cinema Organist

Mr Arthur Wolfenden, of 95, Station Street, Swinton is hoped to out to achieve an ambition

He told our representative on Tuesday that he hopes to achieve great things as a cinema organist, and that his ambition to become a BBC organist. He has just concluded a two weeks engagement at the Regal Cinema, Rotherham, and the door to further success has been opened by an offer from a large cinema circuit to play at their cinemas.

Mr. Woffinden, in addition to playing, has dabbled in composing. Mr. Woffinden first took an interest in the organ at an early age, and he cannot remember when he first began studying music. He decided to become a professional cinema organist only six months ago, but before that had played to audiences, and has played the huge four manual organ at King George’s Hall, Blackburn.

As a pianist he has played in local dance bands, and his signature tune is “Fall in and follow me.”

Mr Woffinden is second son of Mr and Mrs A Woffenden, and is not the only member of the family with talent.

His sister Constance, is well known locally as an elocutionist.
