Chrysanthemum Bazaar.
In Aid of St. Michael’s, Swinton
Months of hard work by members of the St. Michael’s, Church, Swinton culminated yesterday in a successful chrysanthemum bazaar and sale of work.
The effort was held at the school and the room was tastefully decorated for the occasion. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. S. L. Parker, lay reader in charge of the church, supported by Messrs. A. Seddon, and W. Taylor.
Mr. Parker said the object of the effort was to supply much needed finance, which was to be spent on the installation of electric lighting, panelling of the sanctuary, and repairs to windows in the church, the cost being about £75. Mr. Parker added that during the last four years no similar effort had been made by the members, and he hoped that the bazaar would stimulate a spirit of co-operation. Bazaars assisted the social life of churches.
An apology was received from the Vicar, the Rev. T. G. Rogers, who during the week had suffered the death of his mother.
Mrs. A. Blenkinsop, of Rotherham, who performed the opening ceremony, complimented the memhers of the church on the appearance of the room, and apologised for the absence of Mr. Blenkinsop, who had been unavoidably detained in London. She expressed great pleasure in being asked to open the effort.
Votes of thanks were cordially given to all who had assisted, on the motion of Mr. Seddons, seconded by Mr. Taylor.
