July 1.—Suspicious death of a Mexboro’ man at the Wadsley Asylum.

July 3.—Suicide of a Kilnhurst man by jumping into the old river, near Thrybergh Hall.

July 9.—A number of Wath miners fined 20s. and costs at Rotherham, for disorderly assaults.

July 10.—Important meeting of Manvers Main colliers at Swinton in opposition to a reduction of wages.

July 15.—Serious assault on a wife at Kilnhurst through alleged indecency.

July 17.—Annual meeting of the Wath Improvement Commissioners; animated discussion on the rating of the place.

July 21.—Second annual sports in connection with the Mexboro’ Rowing Club.

July 22.—Meeting of Primitives to welcome the newly-appointed ministers of the circuit.

July 24.—At the monthly meeting of the Mexboro’ Local Board it was decided to advertise for a loan of £3,997 for the erection of the Market Hall; the tenders for the work having been opened, it was decided that Messrs. Wortley Bros., tender be accepted.

July 25.—Publication of the report of Her Majesty’s Inspector on the morning examination at National School, Swinton.

July 26.—Annual excursion of scholars in connection with the Mexboro’ and District Sunday School Union to Grimsby and Cleethorpes.—Annual fishing contest between the members of the Swinton, Mexboro’, and Kilnhurst Angling Association.

July 29.—Angling contest at Kilnhurst.

July 31.—Closing of the Swinton feast.


August 2.—Finding of the body of Mr. Henry Thornley in the canal at Swinton.

August 4.—Mexboro’ Rowing Club Regatta.—Lecture by Mr. Chas. Bradlaugh, on “The Land Question.”—Fatal accident to Mr. John Haddon, of Conisboro’, by being knocked down at the Denaby Main crossing.

August 8.—Meeting at Conisboro’ with reference to the lighting of Station Road.

August 10.—Re-opening services at Mexboro’ Congregational Chapel.

August 11.—Fatal accident to a collier at Manvers Main.—Annual athletic sports in connection with the Wath Rowing Club.

August 13.—Meeting at Wath to establish a Cricket Club.

August 14.—Marriage of the Rev. Stephen Parkes to Miss Dawson, of Grimsby.

August 17.—Great floods at Mexboro’.—A man, named Edward Jones, drowned in the canal at Swinton Bridge.

August 19.—A girl, named Spotwood, drowned in the river Don, at Mexboro’.

August 22.—Another parish meeting at Conisboro’ with regard to the gas.

August 26.—Annual excursion of the Mexboro’ Congregational Chapel scholars to Rotherham.—Wath annual flower show.

August 27.—Excursion of a number of Swinton friends to Ilkley and Bolton Abbey.—At the Swinton Local Board meeting the question of a telegraph office for Kilnhurst was considered; also letter from Local Government Board on cemetery, &c.


September 1.—Gala and cricket match in connection with Mexboro’ Cricket Club.—Mexboro’ Primitive Methodist trip to Brodsworth Park.

Sept. 2.—Kilnhurst Flower Show.—Darfield Flower and Horticultural Society’s annual show.

Sept. 11.—Fatal accident to a miner, named Lacey, at the Manvers Main Colliery.

Sept. 16.—Meeting of Denaby miners with reference to the Permanent Relief Fund.

Sept. 18.—Election of a Commissioner for Wath.—Drowning of a medical student at Kilnhurst.

Sept. 19.—A girl, named Mary Ann Hulme, found drowned in the canal at Swinton.

Sept. 20.—Anniversary services, Wesleyan Reform Chapel, Swinton.

Sept. 22.—Laying the Memorial Stone of Mexboro’ Market Hall.

Sept. 25.—Marriage of Mr. Richard Dickinson, to Miss Annie Staton, both of Mexboro’.—Revision of the voters lists at Wath.
