Boxer Bound Over Theft Of Overcoat

James S. Ruane (18), trammer, Burton Grange, Barnsley, known in local boxing as Mick Carney was bound over and ordered to pay costs at Rotherham on Monday when charged with having stolen as bailee an overcoat belonging to Leonard Storey, trammer, Dearne View, Wath Road, Swinton.

Leonard Storey said that on November about 6.90 pan. , he was with Ruane and some friends when Ruane asked if someone would lend him an overcoat. Witness lent his, and a fortnight later he saw Ruane again and asked him about the overcoat. Roane, who was wearing another overcoat, said he had it at his lodgings and would return it. Witness bad not seen Ruane since.

P.c. Hunter said that with P.s. Downhill they visited Ruane’s lodgings and told Ruane they were making enquiries about the overcoat which had been found in the possession of another man in custody on another charge. Ruane said Storey lent it him and he did not take it back. A fortnight later Storey said, “Give me a bob for it and you can keep it.”

He changed the coat for another.
