B.B.C. Audition
Arthur Woffinden, 93. Station Street, Swinton, an 18 year old employee of Messrs. Baker Bessemer, Ltd., on Monday had an audition at the B.B.C.’s Manchester studio.
Arthur who is well-known as a teacher of the piano-accordion, applied about four months ago for an. audition. He filled in some lengthy forms and at last was given a date on which to attend. He gave me a vivid account of his experience. The time seemed to flash by, and within fifteen or twenty minutes the audition was over and Arthur was outside the building. He plays the piano, accordion, guitar, and organ. They are only hobbies now, but one day Arthur hopes music will be his profession.
He has played with Ricardo Le Roy in Mexborough and Doncaster, and he conducts a small accordion band of his own. Nor does Arthur lack seriousness in his music, for he is the sub-organist at St. Michael and All Angels’ Church. He comes from an accomplished family, for his father and mother both play the organ and piano; his brother plays the piano and sketches, while his younger sister. Constance is an elocutionist,.
