Assaulting the Police at Wath.
A Swinton Man in Trouble.
The charge against Sydney McDowell, living at Swinton, was that of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting the police.
Sergeant Phillipson was on duty at Wath on the 7th inst. in company with P.c. Wise, when he saw the prisoner standing in the entry of the police-station. The prisoner turned to some boys and swore at them, and at several people. The officer went to him, and the man struck him on the back of the neck, and also got hold of his legs and threw him down. They were obliged to lock him up.
There were two previous convictions against the prisoner, and for the first offence he was fined 5/– and he had to pay 10/- and costs for assaulting the police.
