Ardron Goes To Notts Forest
Big Fee for Former Denaby Man
Walter Ardron, of Swinton, Rotherham United captain and centre-forward, was on Wednesday transferred to Nottingham Forest at a fee believed to be £10,000.
Rotherham manager Reg Freeman said the move was made at Ardron’s own request and that negotiations were in progress for Rotherham to obtain Forest’s left winger, Kail.
Formerly of Denaby United, Ardron became a professional footballer for Rotherham in 1937. A part-time player—he is an engine driver on British Railways—Ardron went to Derby in 1938 because he could not get sufficient Saturday time off for football, but so quickly did he make his mark that Rotherham re-signed him as a guest player in 1941 and “completely” in 1943
Denaby then had a monetary claim on Ardron which Rotherham settled two seasons ago.
He has been a prolific scorer.
