An Imperfect Alibi,

Street Disturbance.

A disturbance in Sarah Street, Mexborough, attracted the attention of P.c Battarbee at 1.10 p.m. on Aug. 25th, and he found a crowd of about 50 people gathered round Sidney Peplow, and Cyril Birkett, miners, of Swinton, who were using violent and abusive language.

At Doncaster on Tuesday, Peplow and Birkett were summoned for this offence, and the constable stated that they wanted to fight. “These youths are causing a disturbance practically every week,” he added.

Both pleaded not guilty, Peplow stating that he was in Wath at the time in question. He had gone home with his girl.

The Chairman: Have you brought her with you to corroborate that statement.

Defendant. No, I don’t know her name. (Laughter).
