Airman Missing

Mrs. Heald, of 24, Manor Road, Swinton, has received news that her husband, Flt.Sgt. Sydney Heald, is missing from a recent operation over Germany. Flt.Sgt.

Heald is 35, and the son of Mrs. Gordon, 16, Crossgate, Mexborough, and the late Mr. H. Heald, who was killed during the last war. He was a wireless operator/air gunner, and had been operating from a home base since the beginning of the year.

Joining the R.A.F. three years ago, he trained in England and served for ten months in East Africa and Egypt, returning home a year ago. Since then, he has completed many sorties.

Flt.Sgt. Heald is well known in Swinton and Mexborough as a keen tennis player, He was a member of the old Claremont Tennis Club, and later joined the Manvers Sports Club. He was educated at Adwick Road School, Mexborough and was a clerk in the Public Assistance Office at Thurnscoe.
