A “Wonderful” Parade

Swintonian Gets His Commission

It was a proud day on Saturday for Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Tucker, of 5, Wood End Estate, Piccadilly Lane, Swinton, who were invited to Brompton Barracks, Chatham, to see their son, Barry (23), receive his Commission from Brigadier E. F. Parker O.B.E., at the passing out parade of the School of Military Engineering at Chatham.

Barry, an old boy of Mexborough Grammar School, joined the Royal Engineers in January as a National Serviceman, and after training at Aldershot he was chosen to go before a selection committee at the War Office in London. The interview was a success and he was selected to train for a Commission at the School of Military Engineering at Chatham. He commenced training three month ago.

Before he was called up, Barry worked as a draughtsman at Doncaster Plant Works and will return to it when he leaves the Army in 14 months’ time. But now as a 2nd Lt, he will be transferred back tol Aldershot, probably as an engineering instructor.

Travelling- to Chatham with Mr. Hid Mrs. Tucker was Barry’s wife,

Mrs. Tucker’s verdict on the parade was, “it was wonderful; I wouldn’t have missed it for £100”.
