A.T.S. Girl’s Accident

While cycling home on Sunday ‘ about 10.15 p.m. Mrs. Emily Drakeford (21), of 28, Bridge Street, Swinton, met with a serious accident and was admitted to the Montagu Hospital with a fractured skull.

It is thought that Mrs. Drakeford, better known in Swinton perhaps as Miss Emily Lowe, collided with a group of pedestrians. She was later removed to the Fulwood Annexe, Sheffield, where she has undergone an operation.

Mrs. Drakeford is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Lowe, of 21, Bridge Street, her father being a well-known butcher. She joined the A.T.S. in January this year, having previously worked as a clerk in the Mexborough branch of the National Provincial Bank Ltd.

An old girl of Mexborough Secondary School, she was married on July 1st to Mr. Harry Drakeford, of Swinton, who is a fireman employed by the L.N.E.R. Mrs. Drakeford telephoned at 9.45 p.m. on Sunday to her husband saying that she was a bit late and he and a friend set off immediately on a tandem to meet her. When they arrived on the scene of the accident she was just about to be taken to the Hospital.

Mrs. Drakeford was stated yesterday to be progressing satisfactorily.
