Signs of Things to Come ?

There is a sinister atmosphere about the picture (below) of the extinguishing of an incendiary bomb, part of Saturdays A.R.P. demonstration at Swinton. Light relief is provided by the optimism of an ice-cream salesman whose van despite the cold weather, is seen (lower picture) on the fringe of the crowd which watched a decontamination squad at work.
