Many people in the area will remember Mr. Richard Gardner, at one time in Swinton and now in Morecambe, who has just completed 50 years in the Railway Service.

He was the last serving member of the staff of the former Knott End Railway Company, and began his career with the railways at the age of 13. Mr. Gardner became Station Master at Burton and Holme in 1937, later moved to Swinton and subsequently to Clapham.

He will be retiring next month from the position of Accounts Clerk at Lancaster Castle Station.
