Mexborough G.S. Centre-Half Chosen for Yorkshire
Terrence Oldfield (16), son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Oldfield, of 14, Foxland Avenue. Swinton, and a pupil at Mexborough Grammar School, has been chosen to play centre half for the Yorkshire Grammar Schools’ soccer eleven, who play a Leeds University side at Leeds on December 5th.
Terrence, a former engineering student at Mexborough Schofield Technical School, where he captained the school team, was transferred to the Grammar School at the beginning of last term.
He told the “South Yorkshire Times” this week, that he hopes to win a scholarship to University, enabling him to study engineering.
Former captain of Don and Dearne two years ago, he represented the Don and Dearne Area in a Yorkshire Boys’ Trial, but was on named in the final selection.
Recently, after a trial with Sheffield United’s senior intermediate league side, Terrence was asked to sign as an amateur with the club, but was unable to take advantage of the offer owing to the continuation of his studies.
