Language at Swinton

Samuel Webster of Swinton was summoned by a married woman named Anne Smith, designer at Swinton Bridge using threatening language to her on the 15th inst.

The complainant stated that on the day in question defendant came to her house and asked for a box  which he had previously given her when she was his housekeeper.

On going away he called her a d—— thing. Afterwards he certainly will pull her b—— liver and heart out. In consequence of these threats she was afraid of him.

The defendant denied having used the language in question, with exceptional of calling her a d—– thing.

The Bench said the complainant did not seem to be much danger from the defendant, but as she had sworn she was in fear of her life, he would be bound over to keep the peace for six months.
