Winners In 1936
Deter Hilton’s nostalgic series on Montagu Cup history has jogged memories and brought some interesting response.
Mr, Derek Beardsley of 18, Albert Street, Swinton, loaned us a treasured photograph of the 1936 competition winners, Wath Road F.C. His uncle, Cyril Jeavons, who died 20 years ago, scored the winning goal, and is pictured immediately behind the cup.
Two other of his uncles, Wilf and Colin Beardsley, stand side-by-side at the left end of the back row. His father, Fred Beardsley, also played for Wath Road, but is not on the photograph.
The game resulted in a 3.1 win for Wath Road.
