Highest Score in 10 years of Council Cricket

Producing some immaculate shops, dominating the attack and a shining example to the rest of the Swinton colleague, 38 years old opener Sam Vickers chalked up 83 in two hours in their home match with bulk of colliery on Saturday – his highest score in 10 years of Yorkshire Council cricket.

An expert in the art of deflection, Vickers, a miller at Queen’s foundry and a former Mexborough Athletic player, was run out at 138 when it seemed certain that he was going to gain his first century

he takes much of the credit for Swinton’s handsome final score of 177 for 7, their best home performance in seasons.

Although raced by this formal achievement the visitors, with 90 minutes less than Swinton to bat, attacks spiritly and in the latter stages hung on grimly against a terrific onslaught by the home bowlers to draw with 158 for 8 after the extra five overs.

for Swinton George Palmer who made 36 in their match with Pilkington sports last week scored 22 and Brian Byrd 34 in as many minutes. Kitching made a valuable 28.

Towards the end of Swinton batsmen came in with some with only one thought – to get those runs. This proved disastrous, Drury,  Senior and Oliver being dismissed with meagre scores.. H Gadsby was 13not out
